I can’t get enough of utilizing every single piece of one object to create another. I don’t care how small or insignificant an object appears to be. We purchased this old table lamp at a sale for $3.

It worked just fine but, the look is not what I found to be appealing. Even if I updated it with some paint, I just couldn’t see it. I really like making things from old lamp parts whether it’s an actual lamp or not. For example, we made this table lamp out of a ceiling fixture but, I also made a cute piece of fall decor using an old lamp base.

DIY Wooden Pedestal using Old Table Lamp Parts

With this lamp, I’d like to see all of the things I can pull from it. I’ll hopefully get a couple miles out of this single purchase. My first go at it brought about this little pedestal. Just looking at the old lamp you can see how I got the pedestal idea. Only I switched the post with the larger one from the bottom since it’s thicker.

Right now it’s holding a pumpkin but, could hold any number of things as the seasons along with my likes change. It could also be made from just about anything else. Not just wood from a table lamp.

Most times, I take on projects that are bigger than my DIY skills can handle or need more oomph than the tools I have can offer. I do enjoy those challenging undertakings but, it’s the quick little things like this pedestal I can definitely appreciate.

The lamp had a metal post in it as long as it is tall and everything was just screwed together. After removing the metal post, I saw all the pieces I had to work with. This is after I took out the two pieces for this pedestal. I’m thinking a lazy susan for the bigger round part…a small table for the other round piece…a candle holder with some tweaks for the other spindle? Who knows. We also have the various parts that made it work as a lamp which we’ll eventually use in some way since we love making lamps like the old fan we transformed.

I lightly sanded the 2 pieces followed by spreading wood glue on both. Then I sandwiched them together putting a couple of weights on top. I wiped up the glue with a damp rag on the underside that had spread out from squishing it and let it dry overnight.

Once the glue had dried, I spray painted it in a stainless steel color.

It’s as simple as that…now, what difficult project can I come up with next?
